Greg Gutfeld of Fox News reportedly criticized former NBC anchor Chuck Todd for admitting that the media was hesitant to report on President Joe Biden’s decline, both mentally and physically.
During an episode of “Gutfeld!” aired on Friday, Gutfeld reacted to a clip of Todd discussing this topic during an interview with Piers Morgan.
Todd acknowledged that some media outlets were “subtle” in their coverage, expressing concern that negative reporting about Biden could inadvertently assist Donald Trump.
Todd stated, “We were subtle… He’s using the back staircase, he’s not doing any interviews,” highlighting a reluctance among journalists to draw firm conclusions about Biden’s capabilities.
While Todd refrained from claiming there was a deliberate cover-up, he admitted that a fear of supporting Trump influenced the media’s cautious approach to Biden’s situation.
Gutfeld was dismissive of Todd’s arguments, asserting that Todd himself is part of the media he critiques.
He pointed out that the press failed to address the truth about Biden due to their fear of benefiting Trump.
Gutfeld equated Todd’s retrospective complaints to a fictional scenario where a Menendez brother questions his orphan status, mocking Todd for pretending to be above the problem.
The Fox News host further ridiculed Todd’s characterization of the media’s handling of Biden’s public appearances as “subtle,” calling it “derelict” and suggesting that Todd and his colleagues should have been more proactive in their reporting.
He concluded by emphasizing that calling out issues in the media needs to happen in real-time, not years later: “You can’t suddenly be the whistleblower; you should have been blowing your damn whistle while it was happening.”
