Peter Navarro, a former trade advisor to President Donald Trump, reportedly fervently defended the administration’s tariff policies in a recent Fox News interview, responding directly to comments made by Elon Musk.

Navarro believes that Musk’s opposition to tariffs is driven by his personal business interests as the CEO of Tesla.

During the interview on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” Navarro stated, “Every country around the world cheats us,” pointing out that different nations employ various tactics to gain an unfair trade advantage, ultimately affecting American businesses.

He criticized Musk’s suggestion of creating a zero-tariff zone with Europe, arguing that Musk does not fully grasp the intricacies of international trade.

Navarro emphasized that Musk’s focus on selling cars leads him to protect his own corporate interests.

The interview referenced Musk’s recent comment on social media, where he remarked, “He ain’t built shit,” in reference to Navarro.

This prompted Fox News anchor Jackie DeAngelis to question whether a rift had developed within the Trump administration regarding tariff policy, especially with speculation about Navarro’s future in the White House.

Navarro dismissed the idea of any internal conflict, stating that he respects Musk’s opinions while highlighting the need for Tesla’s supply chain, which relies heavily on materials from countries like Mexico, Japan, and China.

He asserted that the administration’s goal is to bolster American manufacturing, particularly emphasizing the importance of producing domestic cars with U.S.-made engines.

Despite Musk’s vocal criticism, Navarro maintains that the administration will continue its tariff strategy, which he believes is essential for reclaiming America’s economic strength and ensuring that U.S. industries thrive.
