White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt reportedly criticized activist judges on Friday for impeding President Donald Trump’s agenda as he seeks to maximize his executive powers.
Speaking outside the White House, she responded to a federal court ruling that mandated the administration to rehire thousands of probationary workers.
Leavitt emphasized that the administration plans to appeal the ruling and utilize the resources of the White House Counsel’s Office to challenge what she deems an unconstitutional injunction.
Leavitt expressed her frustration, stating, “You cannot have a low-level district court judge filing an injunction to usurp the executive authority of the President of the United States. That is completely absurd!” She asserted that the president has the inherent right to hire and fire employees and accused lower-level judges of attempting to obstruct his agenda.
Highlighting the disparity in judicial treatment, Leavitt noted that the Trump administration has faced significantly more injunctions than the Biden administration.
She revealed that in February alone, there were 15 injunctions against Trump’s initiatives, compared to just 14 over three years under Biden.
Leavitt claimed that these judicial actions are driven by partisan activists intent on undermining Trump’s authority.
She took to social media to argue that the Executive Branch cannot function effectively if judges can unilaterally block presidential actions nationwide. “If a federal district court judge wants executive powers, they can try and run for President themselves,” she stated.
Overall, Leavitt’s remarks underscore the Trump administration’s commitment to fighting against what they view as judicial overreach and their determination to implement the president’s agenda despite legal challenges.
