Governor Ron DeSantis has now reportedly announced a $2 million investment in Seaport Manatee during a press conference in Manatee County, highlighting Florida’s strong economy.

He emphasized that Florida ranks as the number one economy in the nation, boasting the lowest per capita debt and top educational standings, as recognized by U.S. News & World Report.

The funding for Seaport Manatee aims to support infrastructure improvements and job creation in Southwest Florida.

DeSantis noted that the port, the closest deep-water port to the Panama Canal, has generated approximately 42,000 jobs and billions in revenue since 2023.

He praised its crucial role in hurricane recovery, mentioning that it remained operational when other ports faced shutdowns.

The investment is expected to enhance business operations and create around 300 new jobs.

Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Jared Perdue commended DeSantis for his commitment to infrastructure, stating, “No governor has done more for infrastructure than Gov. DeSantis.”

The new facility will also produce de-icing salt, a necessity during Florida’s occasional snow events.

DeSantis also addressed immigration enforcement, calling for a statewide law enforcement initiative.

He highlighted that Florida has the highest number of law enforcement agencies participating in the 287G agreements, which empower local agencies to assist with federal immigration enforcement.

Recently, several cities, including Davie and Key West, have signed similar agreements.

Overall, DeSantis’s announcements reflect his administration’s focus on economic growth, infrastructure enhancement, and immigration control, aiming to strengthen Florida’s position as a leading state in various sectors.
