During a new interview, former President Donald Trump stated that Iran has been informed that it must accept a nuclear deal or face potential military action from the United States.
His comments reflect a hardline stance on Iran’s nuclear ambitions, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
Trump expressed a preference for negotiating a deal rather than resorting to military intervention, highlighting that he values the Iranian people, whom he describes as “great.”
“There are two ways Iran can be handled: militarily, or you make a deal. I would prefer to make a deal, because I’m not looking to hurt Iran. They’re great people. I know so many Iranians from this country.” Trump said.
However, he made it clear that his sentiments do not extend to Iran’s leadership, which he characterized as “very evil.”
He mentioned that there are two approaches to dealing with Iran: a diplomatic solution or military action.
Trump conveyed his hope that negotiations would take place, noting that he had previously written to Iranian officials urging them to engage in discussions.
He warned that if negotiations fail, the U.S. might have no choice but to act militarily, which he described as a “terrible” outcome for Iran.
“I would rather negotiate a deal. I’m not sure that everybody agrees with me, but we can make a deal that would be just as good as if you won militarily. But the time is happening now. The time is coming up. Something’s going to happen one way or the other. I hope that Iran and I’ve written them a letter saying, I hope you’re going to negotiate, because if we have to go in militarily, it’s going to be a terrible thing for them.” Trump added.
The former president’s remarks come in the context of ongoing tensions between the U.S. and Iran, particularly regarding the latter’s nuclear program.
Trump emphasized the need for immediate action, suggesting that time is running out for Iran to come to the negotiating table.
His comments underscore the complex dynamics of U.S.-Iran relations, where diplomacy and military considerations are often intertwined.
As the situation evolves, the international community will be closely monitoring any developments related to Iran’s nuclear capabilities and the U.S. response. Trump’s statements indicate a willingness to confront Iran directly if necessary, while still hoping for a peaceful resolution through diplomacy.
