According to individuals who are acquainted with the situation, it is now reportedly anticipated that President-elect Donald Trump will soon choose Brooke Rollins, a former policy consultant to the Trump team, to run the Agriculture Department.
The America First Policy Institute, which Rollins serves as president of, is an organization that has spent months prepping for a possible second term in office.
The group is led by former officials who worked in the Trump administration.
Rollins, a supporter of Jared Kushner, who is Trump’s son-in-law, was originally thought to be a candidate for the position of chief of staff in the White House.
Susie Wiles, who was a part of the team that helped run Trump’s campaign, was selected for that position.
Rollins served as the head of the Domestic Policy Council under the presidency of Donald Trump.
Her home state is Texas, and she once served as the director of the Texas Public Policy Foundation, a think tank with a conservative slant.
It is highly possible that Rollins would be included in conversations regarding Trump’s proposals to impose wide tariffs on imports from the United States, which might have an impact on farmers in the United States.
Trump reportedly also considered the possibility of appointing Kelly Loeffler, a businesswoman who had previously held the position of senator for Georgia, to head the Agriculture Department.
According sources, however, it is anticipated that he will select Rollins instead.
This week, Rollins, who had a conversation with Trump about the position, received a degree in agriculture development from Texas A&M University and was raised on a farm.
As Trump is fast filling up his economic and policy teams, bringing into his government a mix of loyalists and wealthy financiers.
The incoming president said on Friday that he would be nominating Russell Vought to oversee the Office of Management and Budget and said that he will propose investor Scott Bessent to the position of Treasury secretary.
Earlier this week, President Trump made the decision to appoint Howard Lutnick, the chief executive officer of Cantor Fitzgerald, to head the Commerce Department.
The director of the National Economic Council and the representative of the United States in international trade are two important roles that have not yet been filled by Trump.
