President-elect Donald Trump has reportedly pledged to revolutionize education in the United States by increasing his control over funding and classroom teachings, addressing what he perceives as left-leaning tendencies at universities, and potentially dismantling the Department of Education.
If his White House fulfills these commitments, additional families may receive financial assistance to enroll their children in private schools.
Schools would be under pressure to restrict the number of accommodations available to transgender students and to discontinue certain initiatives that are designed to address racial disparities.
Trump has pledged to abolish the Education Department and has expressed his dissatisfaction with the amount of money allocated to schools in the United States.
During his initial term, he suggested that the education and labor departments be merged; however, Congress did not take any action.
It is uncertain whether legislators would endorse the concept in a subsequent term, nor how the department’s responsibilities—including safeguarding students’ civil rights, financing students with disabilities, and disbursing student loans—would be managed in the event of its closure.
Republicans have been hesitant to reduce federal funding that is allocated to schools in their districts or abolish the department.
For the time being, Trump will be required to assume the position of education secretary.

Trump has declared that he intends to restrict the dissemination of left-wing ideology in educational institutions by employing the power of the purse.
Despite the fact that a president is unable to immediately stop funding any school, he could employ a variety of laws to compel schools to address antisemitism on campus, dissolve programs that target nonwhite student groups, or reduce accommodations for transgender students.
According to Trump, Title IX, which prohibits sex discrimination in education, should bar transgenders from participating on female athletics teams.
This would represent a marked departure from the Biden administration’s interpretation of Title IX, which has been to prohibit discrimination based on gender identity.
Trump’s criticism of Kamala Harris’s advocacy for transgender ideologyvduring the campaign resonated with a portion of the electorate. A fact which appears to have contributed significantly to Trump’s historic win in the 2024 presidential elections.
