The No. 2-ranking Senate Republican leader, Senate Republican Whip John Thune (N.D.), has reportedly suggested that former President Trump should consent to a second debate with Vice President Harris.

According to Thune, a prominent candidate to succeed Sen. Mitch McConnell (Ky.) as the next Senate Republican leader, Trump must improve his ability to emphasize the substantive differences between the two presidential candidates.

Thune contends that the first debate neglected to do so.

When asked whether Trump should seek a second debate, Thune responded:

“I don’t think they got enough into the substance of their differences, and I think elections are always about differences. The contrast this time around couldn’t be more clear in terms of their records, their positions, their vision for the future,” Thune remarked.

“Litigating that in a debate setting would be really important, and I don’t think they got enough of that done [Tuesday] night,” he continued.

Trump has declared that he will not consent to a second debate, asserting that there is no necessity to engage in a second debate with Harris, as he emerged victorious in their initial debate.
