On Thursday, a Georgia judge dismissed numerous charges in the 2020 election interference case against former President Trump.
Two of the charges were those that Trump himself had been facing, which represents yet another legal victory for the 2024 GOP nominee.
Judge Scott McAfee granted a motion from a few of Trump’s co-defendants to dismiss three counts in the extensive racketeering indictment filed by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis (D).
McAfee determined that the counts “fall outside the jurisdiction of this State.”
The ruling also grants the former president a substantial victory, as he was confronted with two of the allegations in question.
The former president and a number of his allies are accused of attempting to manipulate the election results in Georgia in order to maintain Trump’s position in the White House following his defeat in the 2020 presidential election.
Trump has entered a plea of not guilty in the case.
The prosecution of Trump and numerous of his co-defendants is currently on pause as they appeal their decision to remove Willis from the case due to her former romantic relationship with a prominent prosecutor, who has since resigned.
However, McAfee’s ruling on Thursday was in response to a dismissal petition submitted by two of the former president’s co-defendants, Georgia Sen. Shawn Still (R) and pro-Trump lawyer John Eastman.
Their prosecutions are not temporarily suspended, as they are not included in the appeal.
Three counts concerning the submission of false Electoral College documents that asserted Trump’s victory in Georgia in 2020 were dismissed by the judge.
McAfee determined that the allegations were subject to federal criminal laws and that the state lacked jurisdiction.
This is the second occasion on which the judge has dismissed certain counts in the case.
