The Democratic governors of the nation back Joe Biden, at least according to his reelection campaign, which reportedly made this claim on Wednesday.

However, there are forces within the party that want to replace Biden after his dismal debate performance against former President Donald Trump last week.

“Tonight President Biden and Vice President Harris met with Democratic governors from across the country at the White House to discuss their continued partnership in this reelection campaign. The president reiterated his determination to defeat the existential threat of Donald Trump at the ballot box in November and sought the advice and expertise of Democratic governors.” the Biden campaign said in a statement after the fact.

According to the campaign, the discussion also covered how crucial it is to ensure that Democrats win seats at every level of government in order to elect more Democratic governors and majorities in state legislatures and Congress nationwide.

The governors met at the White House; in attendance were California Governor Gavin Newsom, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, New York Governor Kathy Hochul, Maryland Governor Wes Moore, and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, the chair of the Democrat Governors Association, was also present. Virtual attendance was provided by all the other Democratic governors.

Following the meeting, a number of the governors, though not all of them, issued statements endorsing Biden.

In an effort to calm staff concerns after hearing from an ally that he was thinking about getting out, Biden refuted reports that he was doing so during a meeting with the campaign earlier in the day.
