Over the weekend, former President Trump ridiculed Libertarians during his speech at their own convention, as he was greeted with booing from the audience.

During the Libertarian national convention on Saturday, Trump made an attempt to solicit their support, even suggesting that they nominate him as their candidate for the 2024 election.

“Only do that if you want to win. If you want to lose don’t do that. Keep getting your 3 percent every four years.” Trump said to the crowd.

That proposal was promptly greeted with boos from the audience.

It has been uncommon for the Libertarian Party to receive substantial support in recent presidential elections.

The national vote share of Libertarian presidential candidate Jo Jorgensen was just over 1 percent during the 2020 election.

In 2016, Gary Johnson, the Libertarian candidate, garnered approximately 3.3 percent of the national vote.

Also, if Trump prevails in the November presidential election, he has pledged to include a Libertarian in his Cabinet.

He also pledged to commute the sentence of Ross Ulbricht, who is currently serving a life sentence for his involvement in the operation of a platform for the purchase and sale of illicit drugs.

Trump’s attendance at the Libertarian National Convention occurred one day after independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. addressed the same audience at the same event.
