According to three persons familiar with the situation, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis stated at a private retreat last weekend that he intends to assist in fundraising for Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.
DeSantis informed his supporters of the decision to assist Trump during an exclusive event on Saturday at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in South Florida, according to sources.
The individual noted that DeSantis had made a commitment to support Republicans at all levels of government, including the presidential race, when he withdrew from the presidential campaign in January.
DeSantis’ comments follow a period of intense political conflict with Trump, both prior to and after the governor withdrew from the presidential primary contest.
The intentions of Trump and his administration regarding DeSantis are ambiguous, as it is uncertain whether they seek his assistance or consider him an ally, despite the governor’s endorsement of Trump in January.
According to a fundraiser present at the event, it is expected that many of the bundlers who heard from DeSantis at the Hard Rock will emulate his actions and begin soliciting funds for the former president.
Roy Bailey, a Texas entrepreneur and co-chair of DeSantis’ national finance advisory group, stated in an interview on Wednesday that he intends to assist in fundraising for Trump, just as he did in 2020.
DeSantis’ donor retreat coincided with Trump’s most significant fundraising event of the election cycle, generating a reported $50.5 million for his campaign.
