In an interview on Wednesday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis reportedly slammed former President Donald Trump over the prospect that he would skip the opening Republican Party primary debate next week in Milwaukee.
Given that he is the only contender other than the former president with double-digit polling numbers, DeSantis stated to Guy Benson on Fox News Radio that he anticipates being the one who gets the most attacks from other candidates.
“Clearly, I’m the only guy that Trump’s campaign attacks. And then the other candidates, a lot of them don’t really say much about Donald Trump, and they — they focus more on me.” DeSantis said.
The governor expressed his want to address the tens of millions of Americans who have not yet followed the primaries.
“Ever since we won re-election in Florida by such a historic margin, people have identified me as a threat. The Democrats have identified me as a threat. Biden, Harris, they spend more time attacking me than anybody else. The media, they have been after me. I have probably had more hit pieces from the corporate press than any other candidate running.” he continued.
“They want to create the narrative that somehow he’s inevitable. But I think the fact that they frantically attack me all the time shows that they don’t actually believe that.” he added.
According to DeSantis, one of the primary reasons Trump does not want to debate is that he does not want to be forced to explain his record in relation to some of the things that he pledged to do during the 2016 campaign but ultimately did not do.
The Super PAC backing DeSantis, Never Back Down, issued an advertisement on Wednesday mocking the former president for not yet pledging to attend the debate.
Republicans need a nominee with stamina. A nominee who's sharp.
