According to The New York Times, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis reportedly stated in a Thursday phone conversation with fundraisers that he is the only Republican contender who can win both the Republican primary and the general election.

DeSantis told fundraisers and supporters ahead of his likely presidential announcement next week that he, former President Donald Trump, and President Joe Biden are the only “credible” contenders for the White House.

“You have basically three people at this point that are credible in this whole thing. Biden, Trump and me. And I think of those three, two have a chance to get elected president — Biden and me, based on all the data in the swing states, which is not great for the former president and probably insurmountable because people aren’t going to change their view of him.” DeSantis reportedly said in a meeting with donors.

DeSantis also claimed that he believed that “the corporate media wants Trump to be the nominee.”

The governor claimed during a phone call held by the DeSantis-aligned political action committee (PAC) Never Back Down that he is the only candidate capable of defeating Biden in the general election.

According to the New York Times, DeSantis praised Trump administration actions and observed that Biden has largely repealed most of them.

According to The Wall Street Journal, DeSantis is reportedly likely to file his presidential campaign paperwork with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) on May 25, coinciding with a Miami donor luncheon.
